Nelson Cares is hosting the 2nd annual Coldest Night of the Year WALK. Together with thousands of Canadians across the country and our community will be walking in the Coldest Night of the Year, raising much-needed funds for local charities who support and serve the hungry, homeless, and hurting.
Nelson CARES operates on behalf of the community to preserve and maintain affordable housing in Nelson, BC. Donations will go to the Room To Live, A Nelson CARES Renewal Project for the much needed improvements to Ward Street Place. This is a unique commercial/residential social enterprise with 42 single occupancy rooms and three apartments. The building is 102 years old and without improvements is fast approaching the end of its usable life. This building provides safe, stable and affordable housing for Nelson, BC community members. Now is the time to focus on the residents and their homes.
The WALK is held on Saturday, February 20th, 2016, and provides each participant the opportunity to:
- walk 2, 5 or 10 km’s.
- fundraise much needed money for a local, hard-serving charity.
- feel a hint of the challenge faced by those experiencing homelessness – particularly during the winter.
Since 2011, the Coldest Night of the Year has raised $7.9 million dollars through the tireless efforts of each of our well known and well respected location partners (charities).
